Graduates must be given career chance

IN the wake of the Leaving Certificate results, college courses, points and unemployed graduates are the main topics of discussion in many households.

Historically and in modern times, Ireland has been renowned as the island of saints and scholars. We do not want a situation where inaction and prolonged unemployment will lead to Ireland being known as the island of unemployed scholars.

Our talented young graduates deserve a bright future with good employment prospects and opportunities. Ireland should be a place where new graduates can contribute to knowledge-based sectors and help mould the country into a more sustainable, competitive and attractive place in which to do business.
