No waste incinerator in Cork Harbour

YOUR article regarding Indaver‘s planned toxic incinerator (August 4) and Indaver’s comments, took my breath away.

No waste incinerator in Cork Harbour

Indaver says they will still have the same capacity in the smaller building to allow for the incineration of municipal waste in the future.

Are they ignoring the board’s “decision in principle” last January that they would not be minded to give permission for municipal waste incineration at this site. We know they have ignored the health concerns of people living in the harbour, by planning to put their toxic incinerator where it can do the most damage to the people in Cobh, already 44% above average in cancer cases. They also ignored planning laws on sitting an incinerator in a flooding area.

Locating a toxic incinerator beside our Navy, the National Maritime College of Ireland, and the Coastal and Marine Resources Centre (recently approved for €7m in R &D funding) affects jobs in the area. In 10 years’ time we will be so glad that we did not build a toxic incinerator in Cork Harbour.
