Centralised services are not the answer

LATELY I heard on the news that suicides could be reduced if support services were centralised.

Centralised services are not the answer

Having run and helped with depression support meetings for some time now, I believe that is totally untrue and can only have been dreamt up by a Fianna Fáil bureaucrat. Even the Road Safety Authority (RSA) was cited.

The RSA has achieved nothing except lots of fat salaries for bureaucrats. Virtually everything that is going wrong with society is caused by incompetent bureaucrats trying desperately to centralise everything so they can have some sort of vague idea what’s going on in a nearby office. Centralisation of the RSA did not prevent any road accidents. Centralisation of medical services into the HSE is clearly making all hospital services worse. Centralisation of national finances – well, say no more. Centralisation of suicide support services will seriously increase suicides. It is the breakdown of the community and local services, caused by our incompetent government, that is responsible for almost every problem we have today.
