HEALTH Minister Mary Harney is right to express her discomfort at some of the executive wage levels in state-funded disability organisations. She believes some deals break public sector pay guidelines.

Chief executives of some voluntary organisations providing disability services are paid up to €176,000 a year.

The minister awaits a value-for-money review of the 600 organisations in the sector. This seems a staggering number of organisations, but hopefully she will not have to wait for five years like those who sought similar answers from Fás.
