‘Faded hippies’ should keep up the good work

YOUR letters page on June 9 made for interesting reading. On the one hand we had the words of a 10-year-old girl who believed she could make the world a better place.

‘Faded hippies’ should keep up the good work

Directly above that we had the words of a paid journalist, Steven King, who wrote of a “misguided attempt to relieve Gaza’s suffering, whoever is to blame for it”.

Who is to blame? Could it be the government of the nation holding the people of Gaza to ransom? If we have to ask questions like this when the truth is staring us in the face, what hope do we have of fulfilling the dreams of a 10-year-old?

I share her dream of a better future and until the state of Israel is held to account for its continuing blockade on another nation it’s a dream that doesn’t stand a chance of succeeding in the Middle East. It may not solve all the problems, but it will be a start.

I sincerely hope other “faded hippies and D-list celebrities” never stop trying to achieve it.

Tell me, what have you done lately Mr King?
