THE decision by the IMPACT executive, the trade union that represents 50,000 of Ireland’s 300,000 public servants, to change its mind on the Croke Park deal is a positive development.

The union leadership, after clarifications were made, has decided to recommend the package to its members.

This week we have seen Greece violently divided and over the last two days New York’s Dow Jones index fell by 5%. The future of the euro is coming under scrutiny and the fear is growing that other eurozone countries, Ireland included, might face the same threat as Greece.
