Drivers advised to take a break — but where?
The motorway between Galway and Dublin is a fine addition to the country’s infrastructure, but there is nowhere to do as the RSA advises, or even to buy petrol. There are a small number of unlit laybys with no facilities, certainly not safe for anyone driving alone. Drivers must keep going or else pull off the road and drive several miles to the nearest town, thus defeating the purpose of building motorways in the first place. Why were appropriate “pitstops” not built at the same time as the motorways — after all, two toll plazas were built.
Advice to drivers — leave home with a full tank of petrol and a flask of coffee. The rest will have to wait!
