Judges’ pay test

IT IS well understood that there is a constitutional prohibition on reducing judges’ pay.

However, is it not clear enough that the prohibition was designed to prevent politicians from targeting judges in isolation, as distinct from an across-the-board pay cut applying to all public servants (including politicians) during a fiscal emergency?

There’s one way to find out – cut judges’ pay and let the Supreme Court rule on it.
