Government going nowhere until the wealthy share the pain

I KEEP hearing members of the Government telling everyone we are all in the economic crisis together and we must all “share the pain” that is necessary to get out of it. They also keep saying “we are in a difficult situation” as if they had nothing to do with it.

Government going nowhere until the wealthy share the pain

The trouble is that while some ordinary people have already had a good bit of pain in terms of job losses, pay cuts, income levies and the dread of those who can’t pay their mortgage , or who are depending on the minimum wage and social welfare, the Government seems to be shying away from compelling the wealthy, including those who are responsible for the crisis, to make any sacrifices.

In addition to the bank bailouts and NAMA, which I believe were designed to protect the wealthy who, along with the Government, were responsible for the situation we are in, the most greedy and inept people kept their bonuses and their huge pension pots, and sometimes their jobs, and when people protested they were told “we can’t do anything. They have a contract”. That – or as protesters were told in the case of two senior civil servants, one of whom received a golden handshake that was twice the average wage, and a car: “This is a matter for the board”.
