FG member ‘deeply angry’ at Kenny’s move

I WRITE to express my deep anger at the complete failure of the leader of Fine Gael to consult the party’s public representatives or membership prior to making his announcement that the party in government would ask the people to abolish the Seanad in a constitutional referendum. There were hundreds of people in the room for that announcement and they have given so much to Irish politics.

Not every Fine Gael member has strong views on NAMA but political activists generally tend to have a deep interest in our electoral system and a strong attachment to our political institutions.

The harnessing of this pool of knowledge and interest through proper consultation of the party membership would have strengthened Fine Gael’s position considerably and generated a stronger mandate for FG policies in government.
