Greens’ policy lost in translation?

A CURSORY examination of the website of Clare County Council shows that more than 120 county council documents are available as free downloads to the public.

Greens’ policy lost in translation?

Of that 120, a mere six are in Irish. I find it hard to believe that the translation of these six documents cost €30,000 (Irish Examiner, October 15).

Perhaps Cllr Brian Meaney of the Greens is unaware that on his party’s website they claim that the protection of Irish is in keeping “with the founding principles of the Green Party” and furthermore that the language must be protected. Of even greater relevance to the remarks of Cllr Meaney is their “support for the full implementation of the Official Languages Act 2007” and for “a bilingual service provision”.
