A wave of creativity is better than a crime wave
Crime in Limerick and Dublin is widespread and even if we had a million gardaí on the beat it wouldn’t get rid of it.
I suggest far more art with the simple crayons or markers from the pound shops. Having worked with seven-year-olds in a national school 30 years ago, I used to see their lovely work with markers.
I would turn aside and say to myself “they could draw the Book of Kells”.
The most cogent quotation I ever saw for child art is from a Kansas department of education art guidebook.
It reads: “The outstanding function of a programme of art for all young people must be to help them to arrive at a well-balanced, creative, intellectual, physical, moral, spiritual, emotional and social maturity”.
