Memorable show from two great bands

WHILE attention has been given by the media to Cork’s Midsummer Festival, I have not read anything about a beautiful concert at Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral on June 22.

Blarney Brass and Reed Band and the Star of the North Concert Band from Minnesota in the US provided a relaxing night of music in Cork’s wonderful old cathedral.

The audience experienced a touch of midsummer magic. Blarney Brass and Reed played for the first half of evening – and what a splendid band it is.

After the interval Star of the North sent the big band sound soaring to the rafters.

The band settled into a wonderful programme conducted energetically and with some ballet-like movements by Wayne Feller.

Thanks to both bands for a great evening. Events like this don’t just happen – there’s a lot of organisation. The large audience appreciated that. Good luck to Star of the North band members as they tour Ireland, North and South.
