How can we not afford to help children?

I AM writing in relation to the article in the Irish Examiner article 6/6/09 which revealed a HSE report has concluded that “neglect and family difficulties with housing and finance are the main reasons children end up in care”.

How can we not afford to help children?

This report makes stark reading and Focus Ireland believes that more needs to be done to support children in the care of the State and children at risk.

I would stress that while much good work is being done the reality is many children are not getting the level of care they require, when in care or upon leaving care at 18 years and children who are reported to the HSE as at risk.
