Dangerous lack of electoral transparency

THE credibility of our electoral system should never be in doubt, however there are appears to be a great dearth of transparency in various aspects of the system.

Dangerous lack of electoral transparency

Town council elections are strange enigma to say the least, where results are published after the local elections, but the public at large are at a loss to know how they were elected and by whom. Serious anomalies also exist in our electoral system further up the stream, with surprise and “unknown” candidates pulling massive quotas and getting elected on the highest degrees of improbability.

We have also seen throughout many elections in this country huge differentials in recounts, despite the huge army of counters and tally men who should have no more than a few votes miscounted, not hundreds which is very often the case. It must be accepted by all that there is a complete lack of a garda presence at counting centres, leaving the possibility of electoral fraud wide open
