Retail monster

ONE has to wonder about the role of the planning authorities in this country. While passing through Douglas village in Cork recently I could not believe how monstrous the new Tesco-anchored store looks in relation to its suburban environment. It is ugly and out-of-place beyond description.

When places like this get the go-ahead it makes me wonder how a lot of people get their initial house plans butchered by the authorities.

Then again I suppose everyone has their own agenda.
