Storing the wind

AFTER all the hot air spouted about wind power in recent years, the announcement from the Spirit of Ireland organisation last week was a breath of fresh air.

Storing the wind

At last here is an outfit which recognises that unless wind power is stored and made available at times of high demand, it is useless on the grid.

Using the wind for pumped storage and later generation to hydro power when needed is the answer. I wish their venture the very best of luck.

Now if we can only dissuade Energy Minister Eamon Ryan, aided and abetted by the ESB, from wasting billions of our money trying to put wind power directly onto the grid, we can start to make progress.
