AS a former teacher and examiner of Junior and Leaving Certificate maths papers it has been brought to my attention by former colleagues that the Department of Education has issued a circular stating that there will be a 25% cut in expenses paid to all those involved in supervising and correcting State examinations.

This is a severe cut but I believe that many might be prepared to accept it if a similar cut in expenses was proposed for all politicians.

When Brian O'Driscoll scored his try he literally put himself on the line. When Tommy Bowe got the bounce of the ball he took the initiative and ran with it and when Bernard Dunne became world champion it was only because of his remarkable courage in adversity.
