Move to cut rent supplement is shortsighted

I AM writing in response to reports that Social and Family Affairs Minister Mary Hanafin is planning to review the rent supplement scheme (Irish Examiner, February 21) as a response to falling rents.

Focus Ireland believes a review of the scheme to reduce rent supplement payments in this manner is shortsighted and would increase the risk of people becoming homeless.

Rent supplements are already below actual rents.
