Nothing bizarre about opposition to Lisbon

IN his letter (January 2), Barry Walsh got a lot wrong when he criticised me and my “fellow-travellers” who voted no to the Lisbon Treaty because of what he describes as “bizarre claims” about the risks in that treaty to Irish children.

Nothing bizarre about opposition to Lisbon

There was nothing bizarre about our claims.

Lisbon did, and still does, put our children at serious risk and I would be more than happy to point out these risks to Mr Walsh and to any of his fellow-travellers who would care to meet me face-to-face.

With regard to his criticism of Maireád Scannell, let me say that while I don’t know Mr Walsh, I do know Mrs Scannell and I know the extraordinary work she has does for the protection of Irish children, born and unborn.

I make no apology to Mr Walsh or anyone else for publicly acknowledging this woman’s great contribution to the rights of all children and to the common good.
