Public sector should thank its lucky stars

WHAT planet are public sector employees living on? We are up to our necks in trouble and they do not want to know. It’s all the Government’s fault.

We are a retail furniture company and last February we started a process of reducing staff because of the economic slowdown. Two staff left and we did not replace them.

Last October we put three staff on short time — three days a week from five days. This is equal to a 40% pay cut. The social welfare payments do not make up the balance. We did not want to do this but we were faced with thereality of declining sales.
