‘Safe’ sex offers no emotional protection

I SHARE the sentiments expressed in the fine letter by Fr Eamonn McCarthy (December 6) in which he correctly argues that ‘safe’ sex does not offer “emotional or spiritual protection”.

‘Safe’ sex offers no emotional protection

Of course liberals with no standards would argue that Fr McCarthy is not living in the real world, but as a chaplain I am sure he quite frequently has to deal with the real life consequences of ‘safe’ sex.

He must witness a lot of broken homes, relationships and people who succumb to the sexual urge of doing what they want because they can’t help it. Just because sex is ‘safe’ does not make it right if it is abused. In addition to being sometimes unreliable, condoms can never excuse giving your body to someone who will not commit to you.
