Independence Day - Go America

TODAY America, the world’s great superpower,celebrates its Independence Day honouring all that they, and we, cherish about liberty, independence and democracy.

Though America is not as admired as it once was it remains the world’s most powerful advocate of the beliefs and principles we use to organise our society.

It is easy to be critical of the American way of doing things. Europe is uneasy about Iran, Iraq and the implications of blind support for Israel’s attitude to the Palestinians. We might wish that America had chosen to give a better lead in environmental matters but despite all of these concerns it remains the land of freedom and opportunity. If you have any doubts about that consider the alternatives.
