New L-driver system fails the reality test

I WISH to express my frustration with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and the Department of Transport regarding the proposed status of L-drivers from today.

Not only will L-drivers not be allowed to drive unaccompanied — they will also be precluded, by extension, from practising and honing their skills prior to any driving test — which is vital to a successful outcome.

There is absolutely no infrastructure provided by the State for L-drivers to improve and become experienced drivers.
