PRESIDENT Mary McAleese should not have been in Lourdes in your name (Editorial, May 26), nor the Irish army there among the armies of the 40 other countries.

The beatification of the 500 Spanish martyrs was not in accordance with your norms of political correctness.

President Bush should not have gone to the airport to welcome the Pope to America. You seem to be very preoccupied about the Catholic Church being seen in the public square.
