RECENTLY, Gay Mitchell MEP suggested the Lisbon Treaty is about a new form of European government and European integration.

Can he, as a Irish MEP and Fine Gael member, explain how far this integration is to go and when are we going to be consulted about Ireland being integrated into a European state.

We signed up for an economic union in 1972. What we have now is a massive expansion of the EU and deeper integration, far beyond what we initially signed up to.
