Local media should keep its roots in the regions

OUR local media — print and radio — are a vital and irreplaceable voice of the people of provincial Ireland.

Local media should keep its roots in the regions

The need to support our local newspapers and local radio stations is greater now as the prime objective of some major media owners is to centralise and control operations and production to major centres, taking the editing, compilation and production of the provincial press away from its roots.

This also removes jobs and the vigilant eyes of journalists from the regions with which they have an affinity and the trust of local communities.
