IN Adi Roche’s letter (April 14), the dark word ‘Chernobyl’ is mentioned no less than eight times. No mention is given to years of successful low CO2 output nuclear-electric generation across Europe — without incident.

One disaster should not put us off nuclear

No mention is given to the high-risk operations at Chernobyl or the complexity/design issues in the now archaic Soviet RBMK reactor.

The root causes of that accident were complex and involved many human factors, including an unacceptable tolerance of risk.
