Explaining away the havoc of alcoholism

WE were subjected to another whinge from Suzanne Harrington regarding society’s refusal to look on alcoholism in the same way that it regards other diseases such as cancer (April 7).

Only alcoholics would make such a self-serving assertion. Only alcoholics would deviously accept responsibility for their actions while at the same time claim to be suffering from a disease over which they are powerless thereby granting themselves a blanket amnesty for the havoc inflicted on those around them

I’m sure Ms Harrington can produce evidence to support her theory, but it is possible to find supporting data for any theory no matter how spurious.
