Oil and water

YOU quote Prof Frank Convery (April 14) as saying ‘water is fast becoming the new oil’. This is nonsense. Oil is fossilised remains that were produced over millions of years; once used it cannot be replaced.

Water is being continually recycled by evaporation and rain — it will last forever and it is simply a matter of creating the infrastructure to make it available where it is needed.

Ireland should be the last place to have problems with water shortages.
