Government sidestep on airport debt

FIANNA FÁIL’S general election slogan last year was ‘The Next Steps’.

However, it is now apparent that these also included steps backwards and sideways. And sidestep is what they did when it came to the issue of the Cork airport debt.

Seamus Brennan, former Minister for Transport, promised that Cork airport would be handed over debt-free. Now it is to be saddled with a potentially crippling liability of €113 million.
