Bertie brought down by media bias
With the support of members of the opposition, who were unable in any other way to compete, the media has again won the day.
Those print, radio and TV journalists who are unable to report news without giving us their judgment have succeeded, once again, in manipulating political outcomes.
Thankfully, Mr Ahern had the integrity and courage to build a party that can continue his legacy. We know that as soon as a new leader is chosen, the media will commence another campaign of denigration. However, those of us who pay to read and listen to journalists allow this manipulation.
We seem to have lost the ability to admire and respect leadership and to engage in unbiased dialogue and constructive criticism.
Journalists think their opinions and prejudices are all that matter simply because we media consumers allow them to get away with it.
We must recognise the palpable lack of talent, values and courage of those whose only task is to ‘stir the pot’, criticise and spin.
