Point of departure

IT’S becoming increasingly clear, amid the ongoing Mahon Tribunal revelations, that many voters will oppose the Lisbon treaty simply to embarrass the Taoiseach.

As such, it is now obvious the Taoiseach is jeopardising the ‘yes’ campaign by not resigning.

The Government must be acutely aware of this. In the interests of the country, and of Europe at large, the Green party and the PDs must now apply pressure on Fianna Fáil to seek a new Taoiseach. The longer it takes them to follow their own previous example of setting high standards, the more they are showing they are a spent force.
