The GAA standoff - Resolution depends on compromise

THOUGH the dispute between the GAA’s county board in Cork and the county’s hurlers and footballers has entered unchartered and dangerous waters, it is wrong to imagine that the GAA is our only sports organisation facing significant challenges.

Our national soccer team has been without a manager since October 23 because the FAI is determined not to repeat earlier mistakes, but the void is approaching the point at which it could become an embarrassment.

Tomorrow our rugby team goes to Paris under the discredited leadership of Eddie O’Sullivan, who, by any assessment, is at the lame-duck stage of his career.
