Gaeilge in Europe: a few selective facts fail to tell real story

YET again the Irish Examiner chooses to report only the part of a story which ticks the boxes of its ongoing anti-Irish language campaign with its story and associated editorial (‘Gaeilge costs €13,000 per minute. MEPs speak less that 30 minutes of Irish in 2007’, January 21).

Gaeilge in Europe: a few selective facts fail to tell real story

Following my exposure (Letters, December 28) of your newspaper’s folly regarding the published reports which claimed, wrongly, that no-one was reading or using Irish language versions of development plans in counties Cork and Waterford when, in fact, thousands were downloading these documents from internet sites, readers might have expected more caution and circumspection regarding the subject subsequently.

However, it seems your editorial policy of not letting the facts get in the way of a good story seems still to hold sway.
