THE assumption made by your leader writer (January 24), and the Government, seems to be that it is up to the individual rather than the Government to reduce global warming.

Government must give lead on cutting emissions

But there is a limit to what the individual can do, and it is unreasonable to expect that some people should martyr themselves to reduce carbon emissions while others are free to be profligate with them.

It is up to the Government to take the necessary initiatives and introduce the required legislation and fiscal policies — not just preach and make token gestures.
