THE plan to put “centres of excellence” in major cities will not only be an added dimension to patients’ suffering, when they will have to negotiate traffic to get to these hospitals, but it will also worsen the traffic problems in these cities.

I would suggest we establish “centres of excellence of information” where all medical staff could avail of integrated communications systems thereby leaving patients and medical staff in their own regions.

This centre would also be responsible for reading X-rays, blood tests and other medical tests which require multiple opinions.
