Garda data monitoring - Random checks to be welcomed

FROM today, An Gárda Siochána will randomly check on the use of data files by gardaí.

This has been as a result of complaints currently being investigated that gardaí sold data to insurance companies in relation to road traffic accidents.

Senior gardaí will be responsible for spot checks on the appropriateness of garda access to the pulse system, which will record every time a garda uses the system. The checks will involve ensuring that the system was accessed for legitimate purposes.
