No priest in the parish — what’s the answer?

I READ with interest Conor Ryan’s report (October 8) on the role of priests in our changed society — the emphasis being on the role of pastoral councils.

I am aware that the laity, at least in some areas, were consulted about how parishes will evolve when priests are no longer available.

I took part in such a consultation in our parish of Glounthaune in Co Cork a few years ago.
