THE situation in Darfur has been described as the worst humanitarian disaster this century so far.

We must act on Darfur

Mary Robinson visited refugees from Darfur in camps in Chad. She said that, despite her broad experience of suffering, she had been “more affected by what (she) heard from the women there than almost anything before”.

The deployment of UN troops still seems a long way away. Our Government must heed Mary Robinson’s plea for a greater sense of urgency. We must press the EU to act.
