Damaging role

WHILE Diarmaid Ferriters’s assessment of Fr Michael Cleary (Sept 6) as being “always a fraud” may be a bit harsh, he was nonetheless the self-appointed celebrity face of the Catholic Church.

It was because he played this role so well that he did so much damage to the church’s credibility.
