WHILE Diarmaid Ferriters’s assessment of Fr Michael Cleary (Sept 6) as being “always a fraud” may be a bit harsh, he was nonetheless the self-appointed celebrity face of the Catholic Church.

THE late Fr Michael Cleary has been pilloried all week in the media since the riveting RTÉ documentary on Monday night.

I WATCHED Rolling Back the Years from 1979 on RTÉ the other evening and all I could think of when I saw Bishop Eamon Casey and Fr Michael Cleary singing their hearts out on stage together during the Pope’s visit was — “now there goes a handy, holy double act, and no mistake.”
