YOUR feature article on the Sikh turban headlined ‘Why we need to embrace diversity’, August 23) suggests to me that the issue may be more about psychology than race and politics.

Permitting ethnic headgear in the gardaí would suggest a community-based image, while insistence on the peaked cap evokes a more stern authoritarianism.

But we have huge anomalies in head adornment elsewhere — in fact, we are consumed by attention to it.
