Anti-nuclear ‘nonsense’

PATRICK L O’BRIEN (Letters, July 6) is entirely correct to decry the “nonsense regarding the dangers of the nuclear option”.

Anti-nuclear ‘nonsense’

Unfortunately, it is probably too late already to avoid a weeping and gnashing of teeth sometime in the next 10-to-15 years.

That is how long (at best) it is likely to take to build our own nuclear facilities while ‘peak oil’ will begin to bite as supplies start to decline precipitously while at the same time the price of oil and gas go through the roof.

Indeed, if the debate is not resolved within the next year or so, it is likely that Ireland will be left behind in the rush to nuclear as more farsighted countries see the writing on the wall.
