Four ways to reduce risk of truck crashes
1. Construct, where possible, an isolated lane for commercial vehicles alongside our new motorway system.
2. Erect a dividing earth bank to eliminate any possibility of a truck colliding with oncoming traffic. I would recommend this on any hill, along with an adjoining brake failure trap.
3. There should be low-impact ramps on these lanes to make drivers adopt proper procedures when going downhill.
4. Haulage contractors should instruct their drivers that when fully laden in wet or icy conditions, they use their trailer brake softly at first and lower their gears to avoid the possibility of jackknifing. This procedure has saved me on many occasions.
