Fact and belief

I READ Steven King’s pro-choice column (May 9) with interest.

However, towards the end of it he referred to those who “believe that the fertilised human egg is a baby”. I am not aware of anyone who believes that. The fertilised human egg is an unborn human life.

This is a fact; it is not a belief. What we are entitled to do with this early human life is where belief comes in.

Sadly, many people — and Mr King appears to be one of them — believe it’s okay to deprive a totally innocent unborn human being of life, even for social reasons.

He commends the Labour party as courageous; rather odd in the case of a party that regards itself as the champion of the weak and vulnerable.
