World class sport beats local fare

MOVING forward as we do in this new all embracing multicultural society that is Ireland of the year 2007, it’s nice to read the final comment from Tony Considine in Michael Moynihan’s article of last Saturday.

World class sport beats local fare

Given that the Irish Cricket team have raised the profile of this country, in a good way, on an international stage Mr Considine shows that the thinking demonstrated by some members of his organisation in recent debates on International match venues, continues, despite the obvious benefits a more inclusive view has for all sportspeople and supporters in this country.

Munster Rugby, Ryder Cup Golfers, chaps from Mayfield all contribute in a positive way to Ireland’s image both at home and abroad.

Its a long, long way Tony from Clare to here ,and even though I’m no expert on cricket I for one would disagree with the sentiment expressed about “anything being better than watching cricket!”

I would much prefer to watch world class sport, cricket or otherwise than suffer through parish pump hurling or faction fights disguised as sport as is all too often the case.
