WITH road carnage such a big issue, imagine how surprised I was last Sunday to discover rally cars hurtling past my house along a lane at breakneck speed and local gardaí saying they could do nothing about it.

While trying to get out of my driveway I was sworn at by some of the drivers, presumably because they had to touch the brakes. I was told by the gardaí my road was closed — exactly where I never found out.

I had to contact my husband to warn him of these daredevils as he was driving a van trailing a horsebox and, based on my experience, I felt he would be a target for similar abuse.
