Restrict vending machine use in winter
Probably very few, yet these machines run throughout the year, consuming approximately 4,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity annually.
In Japan, vending machines consume eight billion kWh, and account for “0.7% of the total domestic electricity generation”. Canadian figures for vending machines are equally disturbing. According to the country’s office of energy efficiency, “There are an estimated 200,000 vending machines in Canada, requiring about two million kWh of electricity every day. Over 90% of the vending machines dispense beverages.”
