Alarm over plans for detention centres

THERE has been much media discussion in recent weeks on issues to do with migration and asylum seeking.

Access Ireland is alarmed at the recent statement by Justice Minister Michael McDowell in which he announced that he plans to put some asylum seekers in detention centres while their claims are being processed.

As an agency which as been working for 10 years in the areas of refugee integration, health and well-being, we have a number of concerns about this.
